Shanghai Ranking 2019: WUR maintains its position as best university for agricultural sciences

Lists of best universities in various fields are published throughout the year. The Shanghai Ranking is generally seen as one of the most influential rankings. In addition to the ranking for total scores per university, which is still to be published, the Shanghai Ranking also publishes a ranking by subject. This shows how universities score in more than fifty disciplines within the fields of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences.

Ecology on the rise

This year, Wageningen maintained its first-place ranking in the agricultural sciences category, followed by China Agricultural University and Nanjing Agricultural University. Wageningen now ranks second in food technology, with Jiangnan University taking first place and China Agricultural University taking third place. With respect to ecology, Wageningen moved up one spot to fourth place, after the universities of Montpellier, Oxford and Davis.

In general, the results reveal that WUR ranks among the top fifty universities in the following fields: agricultural sciences, food science and technology, ecology, veterinary medicine, geography, environmental sciences, water sources, atmospheric sciences, biotechnology, and remote sensing.

The Shanghai Ranking includes more than 4,000 universities, with the ranking itself based on the number of scientific articles published between 2013 and 2017, the number of international collaborations (derived from the publications), and the number of awards received.

QS World University Rankings 2020

Wageningen ranked 125^th in latest QS Global World Ranking, which was updated this week, thereby maintaining its position compared to last year. QS conducts two annual rankings: the general ranking and one based on five broad themes, which will be published later this year.
