Top Locations Manifest: Plea for investment in the physical aspects of innovation-ecosystems

In its Growth-Letter of last December, the government states it wishes to invest in research and innovation systems. In a “Top Locations Manifest”, the ten largest campuses in the country stress that campuses and science parks function as physical innovation-ecosystems, and, as such, are a facilitator and accelerator for regional and (inter)national collaboration between knowledge institutes and businesses.

Connections between research, education, trade and industry and society, are established on a daily basis. This speeds up the process of converting knowledge into actual innovation of products, processes, technologies and platforms.

The Top Locations Manifest calls on parliament and the political powers to consider top locations as a third pillar upholding a successful innovation policy. The manifest pleas for shared facilities, easy access, business development, acquisition and a base funding for campus organisations for this purpose. The initiators of the manifest expect to need a sum of 100 million euro’s per year.

The Top Locations Manifest was published and explained during a webinar on 1 July.
