Construction of Unilever building officially started
Construction of Unilever's Global Foods Innovation Centre officially started on Friday 3 November. Architect Paul de Ruiter explained what makes this new building so sustainable and accessible.
Presenting to an audience of 150 to 200 people, De Ruiter explained that the Global Foods Innovation Centre will be the most sustainable circular building in the Netherlands. "It starts during the construction phase. Most of the materials we use are recycled, including 90% of the glass."
The accessible design and layout of the building will make it easy for WUR students and staff in search of inspiration to wander in.
Workplace
According to De Ruiter, Unilever employees will have access to state-of-the-art, energy-saving work stations. The clever use of windows will allow a lot of natural light to enter the building and the innovative air treatment system will ensure plenty of fresh air. Underground heat storage will be used to heat and cool the building and solar panels will generate some of the electricity. Finally, water-saving toilets will reduce water consumption and the indoor climate will be regulated automatically by thermosensors.
The Global Foods Innovation Centre is expected to be ready in the summer of 2019 and will be located in between the Plus Ultra and FrieslandCampina buildings.
