Global Governance for the 21st Century | talk by Dr. A.L. Dahl

The world suffers from serious risks ranging from threats to peace and security, through massive human rights violations to existential challenges due to climate change and loss of biodiversity as the natural resource shrinks.Today, Dr. A.L. Dahl will give a talk about his proposals and some scenarios for realizing them.

With two colleagues Dr. A.L. Dahl won the New Shape Prize of the Global Challenges Foundation in 2018 for their proposals on reforming the United Nations (UN), giving it the capacities to address critical global issues.

Proposals include a legislative capacity in a reformed UN General Assembly with proportional representation complemented by a World Parliamentary Assembly, a reinforced organization for climate change would establish binding limits on greenhouse gas emissions, and many others.

Arthur L. Dahl is a scientist, retired senior official with UN Environment, and current President of the International Environment Forum, with 50 years' intergovernmental experience in regional and global environmental management and governance at the science-policy interface, including the Stockholm, Rio, Johannesburg and Rio+20 conferences and the Paris Climate Conference.
